Grammy-winning Irish singer Sinead O’Connor is apparently alive and “happy” hours after Chicago police received an alert that she planned to commit suicide by jumping off of a bridge.
Chicago PD had advised officers on Thursday to be on the lookout for the 49-year-old singer after her family contacted authorities and warned that she was suicidal, according to the Associated Press.
But O’Connor posted two messages to Facebook early Friday morning in which she apparently celebrated the United Kingdom’s exit from the European Union and said she was “far too f*cking happy” to take her own life.
“CONGRATS TO EVERY MAN, WOMAN AND CHILD WHO EVER DIED FOR THE CAUSE OF IRISH FREEDOM, AND ALSO TO ALL THOSE INCLUDING MYSELF, WHO HAVE BEEN PERSECUTED MERCILESSLY BY THE IRISH SO CALLED FREE-STATE FOR HAVING DECLARED SUPPORT FOR SINN FEIN AND THE REPUBLICAN MOVEMENT,” O’Connor wrote in an early-morning message on Facebook.
“(Oh and by the way it’s bullsh*t I jumped off a bridge, some stupid bi*ch up at Swords Garda station decided she’d like to throw a bit of false and malicious gossip about is all). AM FAR TOO FUC*ING HAPPY FOR THAT!!”
O’Connor posted another message a few hours later.
According to the Chicago Sun-Times, local police are still searching for O’Connor despite the upbeat Facebook messages.
This is not the first time the troubled singer has sparked fears for her safety after reportedly planning to commit suicide.
In November, the “Nothing Compares 2 U” singer posted a lengthy message to Facebook than her fans and family interpreted as a suicide note.
The singer wrote that she had “taken an overdose” because “there is no other way to get respect.” She was later found safe in Dublin and received medical treatment.
In May, Chicago police issued a “check for well being” alert for the singer after she went for an early-morning bike ride and did not return. The alert described the singer as “missing suicidal.” She was later found safe.
O’Connor has struggled with suicidal tendencies for years. The singer told Oprah Winfrey in 2007 that she attempted to take her own life on her 33rd birthday.
O’Connor won a Grammy Award for Best Alternative Music Performance in 1991.
