Rapper and music mogul Jay-Z has signed a two-year first-look deal with The Weinstein Company to produce film and television projects, according to reports.

The deal is said to include a number of projects already in development that will be announced in the coming weeks, Deadline reports.

“I’m excited to tell stories from real-life prophets, whom through their struggles have changed the world for the better, and others whose stories are filled with fantasy and delight,” Jay Z said in a statement announcing the deal. “Harvey and David are visionaries both of whom have done this time and time again. I’m already passionate about what we currently have in the pipeline and I’m looking forward to discovering others.”

The 46-year-old mogul — real name Shawn Carter — has already been involved in the production of several studio films, including the Jamie Foxx-fronted remake of Annie, Baz Luhrmann’s The Great Gatsby and Chris Rock starring vehicle Top Five.

“Having known Jay on a personal level for many years we are thrilled by the opportunity to expand our relationship,” the Weinstein Co. said in a statement. “Jay’s ability to influence entertainment and pop culture has gone well beyond music for many years. He approaches every aspect of his career with both determination and effortlessness, making him one of the leading power players in entertainment history. We already have some exceptional projects in the works and are excited to see what more is to come.”

The deal was reportedly negotiated by TWC president David Glasser and executive VP Sarah Sobel. The deal is TWC’s second first-look deal this year after inking a similar deal with Magnificent Seven director Antoine Fuqua earlier this year.
