Two senior leaders of an Islamic movement in Morocco that promotes chastity were caught having sex on a beach, police say.

Police caught Moulay Omar Benhammad, 63, and Fatima Nejjar, 62, in the act in a car on a beach north of Casablanca, IANS reported.

Benhammad and Nejjar landed themselves in trouble with the Islamic Unity and Reform Movement (MUR), a religious party and ideological wing of the Islamic Justice and Development Party (PJD), the New York Post reported.

MUR held an emergency meeting to suspend Benhammad and Nejjar, both vice presidents of the organization after the incident went viral on social media.

They were allegedly in a “sexual position” inside the car, according to police reports.

Police charged Benhammad with attempted corruption and Nejjar with complicity to adultery.

Officials from MUR said the two had violated “the principles of the movement, of its orientation and its values.”

Benhammad claims that he is in a common law marriage with Nejjar and that his wife would not want him to be prosecuted for adultery, the Post reported.

According to Moroccan penal code, which is based on Islamic law, Moroccans can be imprisoned for sexual relations outside of marriage for up to 12 months.
