JERUSALEM – The student movement of Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas’ Fatah party promotes the notion that the “blood of martyrs” will eventually lead to the creation of a state of Palestine, erasing Israel in the process.

At two Palestinian universities, An-Najah National University in Nablus and Al-Quds Open University, the insignia of Fatah’s student union Shabiba bears the inscription: “From the sea of blood of the shahids (martyrs) we will create a state.”

The insignia features a coat of arms on a raised fist that is shaped as “Palestine” with Israel entirely erased. The emblem also features an image of the Dome of the Rock and the keffiyeh (Arab headdress) pattern, which has come to symbolize the Palestinian cause.

The insignia was published last week on Fatah’s official Facebook page in an announcement publicizing the upcoming elections for the student union council, Israeli monitoring group Palestinian Media Watch (PMW) reported.

PMW recently published a report for the U.S. Congress documenting instances of Palestinian promotion of terror and violence. The idea that “Palestine” is to be created from the blood of martyrs is often repeated.

The campus chapter of Shabiba at Birzeit University near Ramallah last year hung posters calling for the murder of Israelis, with the text, “Plant [the knife] in the heart of your enemy.” The university’s Shabiba had a similar logo with a fist in the shape of “Palestine” and the text “We will return.”
