A planned “Ginger Pride Day” event at San Francisco’s Dolores Park has been cancelled by the Events And Facilities Specialist at SF Recreation & Parks due to an overwhelming response from redheads looking to attend the first-ever festival in the region.

However, those who still wish to celebrate their friends and loved ones with red and orange hair were still invited to picnic in the park on Thursday evening, according to the event’s Facebook page.

The event was set to take place with a silent disco, photo booth, “red velvet” birthday cake cutting ceremony, and speech by mayoral candidate Broke-Ass Stuart. Despite the cancelation, a planned after-party at Monarch (on 101 Sixth St. at Mission) will be taking place as anticipated at 9 p.m. Redheads will receive discounts on special drinks, including Jameson and ginger ale.

Event planners did mention that the San Francisco authorities are “very open to hosting Ginger Pride once the park is back up and fully operational,” according to their post. “So stay tuned.”

Stuart Parry, a redheaded pizza delivery driver from the UK, is reportedly planning a ginger pride festival in England in 2016. His page Gingers: The Gathering has so far garnered over 6,000 Facebook followers internationally.
