Schwarzenegger Warns Trump: If You Want to Drill, ‘Do it off Mar-a-Lago’

Former California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger blasted President Trump’s move to allow increased offshore drilling, telling him that any attempts to do so should take place off of the coast of Florida near his Mar-a-Lago resort, rather than in California waters.

“Don’t touch California. If you want to drill, do it off Mar-a-Lago,” Schwarzenegger tweeted on Monday. “Or better yet, look to the future, follow CA’s lead & go green and we can all breathe easier. The US’s largest economy is nearly 50% renewable. #ProtectThePacific.”

The Trump administration  recently announced that it would lift bans that were implemented under previous administrations that banned offshore drilling on the Outer Continental Shelf. The move angered environmental activists.

Schwarzenegger subsequently tweeted, “Our fishing, tourism, and recreation industries employ hundreds of thousands of great people. Our coasts are an economic gold mine. Do not put them at risk.”

Progressive filmmaker and anti-Trump activist Michael Moore already has stated his intention to drill off the coast of Florida near Mar-a-Lago, and sarcastically tweeted, “We’ll be drilling right off the coast of Mar-a-Lago. God Bless You Donald Trump for making this possible! The oil we drill just off your beach will pay 4 our entire show! And any spills – we’re going to let the ppl of Florida keep whatever they collect 4 free!”

However, the Trump administration recently exempted Florida from the new policy.

Trump has been critical of Schwarzenegger’s tenure as govenror of California, and slammed his low ratings for the Celebrity Apprentice show after he replaced Trump as the host.

In response to Trumps’ tweet, Schwarzenegger reportedly recalled, “I said, ‘Let’s sit on it for an hour. I called my assistant and said, ‘I think what we really should do is request a meeting and go back to New York. And then we just smash his face into the table.”
