TEL AVIV – Air raid sirens were heard throughout Israel shortly after 10am on Monday as part of a nationwide missile attack drill for educational institutions.

All of Israel’s educational institutions took part in a simultaneous exercise, with the IDF Home Front Command search and rescue teams simulating rescue operations in six schools across the country.

Both the HFC and the Education Ministry announced the drill ahead of time.

The Israel Police, Magen David Adom emergency services, the Israel Fire and Rescue Service, and local authorities also simulated their response to a real missile attack on the Israeli home front that may strike when schools are in session.

School children have received instructions on how to respond in the event of an attack.

The IDF Spokesman’s Unit said the annual drill had been planned ahead of time for 2016.
