Jeremy Corbyn’s left-wing Labour Party has been punished at the ballot box for its inability to deal with allegations of anti-Semitism.
That was the claim made by defeated councillors in Barnet, north London who vowed they can can “never” repeat mistakes of this local election and said the anti-Semitism row had “shamed” the party.
Conservatives regained control of the key Labour target as the party’s candidates admitted the anti-semitism scandal had cost them the votes needed for a victory with the electorate appearing to punish Jeremy Corbyn’s party.
Labour group leader Barry Rawlings conceded that Jewish voters had sent the Labour Party a message, saying: “I must say that in some wards where there is a large Jewish community, it has made a difference.”
He added: “Of course the Tories did go hard in those areas on that issue, saying that if you vote Labour you’re voting for Jeremy Corbyn.
A defeated Labour councillor in West Hendon tweeted about the party’s anti-Semitism row, saying “we must NEVER have another election like this” after the Conservatives took all three seats from the party in the ward.
Outgoing councillor Adam Langleben, who also sits on the national executive committee of Jewish Labour, tweeted: “No community group should have their vote dictated by their safety. That should shame us @UKLabour.”

The comments confirm a recent poll that found that more than half of voters think Labour has an anti-Semitism problem and over a third think Jeremy Corbyn is himself anti-Semitic.
Almost 51 percent also think Labour has at least pockets of anti-Semitism, and 34 percent think those pockets include the leader.
The findings, from a debut poll by the Deltapoll company, confirm the Labour leadership’s inability to control the anti-Jewish forces running rampant inside the left wing party.
