Pakistan and Russia Form Closer Bond

Pakistan and Russia Form Closer Bond

Pakistan and Russia have been holding “high level discussions” to find ways to strengthen the two nations’ economic, military, and political relationships.

Pakistan’s military chief General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani traveled to Moscow this week to meet with Russian officials. And this comes at a time when relations between Pakistan and the U.S. are deteriorating.

Former Pakistani Army Brigadier Farooq Hameed Khan explains: “We have had a rollercoaster-type relationship with the United States. [There have been] repeated sanctions against Pakistan, economic sanctions, threats of military sanctions and especially in the last ten years.”

He added, “anti-U.S. sentiment has grown so much in Pakistan that I now think the people of Pakistan would welcome a warming up with the Russians.”
