Former Israeli Deputy FM: Obama, Netanyahu, Abbas Will Talk

Israel’s former Deputy Foreign Minster Danny Ayalon is “convinced” that an upcoming U.S. visit to Israel will include a summit between Obama, Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu, and Palestinian Authority Chief Mahmoud Abbas.

Obama is currently scheduled to visit Israel, the PA, and other countries in the region when he arrives on March 20.

Ayalon thinks one of Obama’s main goals is to make up for “[skipping] Israel altogether” on his last visit, and that he will use this visit to “correct his error” and “restore the United States to its chief role in the Mideast peace process.” Two other priorities will be discussing “joint efforts to prevent Iran from getting nuclear weapons” and the “neutralization of…major threats against Israel in the wake” of Syria’s collapse.

The White House has not confirmed a meeting between Obama, Netanyahu, and Abbas, and has actually downplayed the trip as one in which nothing “special” is planned.
