Feb. 13 (UPI) — Kendall Coyne Schofield scored twice to lead Team USA to a 6-0 shutout of Italy on Friday in a 2026 Winter Olympics hockey quarterfinal.
The veteran forward found the net twice in a span of 3:10 in the second period of the victory at Milano Rho Ice Hockey Arena. Fellow forward Britta Curl and defensemen Megan Keller and Laila Edwards registered a goal and assist apiece.
Forward Hanna Bilka also scored in Friday’s win. Defenseman Caroline Harvey tallied two assists against the Italians. The Americans outshot the Olympic hosts 51-6.
U.S. goalie Gwyneth Philips made six saves. Her counterpart, Italian net minder Gabriella Durant, made 45 stops.

Edwards and forward Alex Carpenter assisted Keller for first blood 13:31 into the quarterfinal. Coyne Schofield netted her duo of scores less than five minutes into the second period. Keller and forward Tesse Janecke assisted Edwards for a fourth U.S. goal less 30 seconds after Coyne Schofield’s second score.
Curl pushed the lead to five goals with 8:31 remaining in the bridge frame. Bilka scored the final goal of the night with 1:33 remaining in the period.
Germany will take on Canada in another women’s hockey quarterfinal at 10:40 a.m. EST Saturday in Milan. Finland will battle Switzerland in the last quarterfinal at 3:10 p.m. Saturday at Milan Rho Ice Hockey Arena.
Sweden beat Czechia 2-0 in Friday’s first women’s quarterfinal.
The Americans and Swedes will play in semifinal matchups against to-be-determined opponents Monday in Milan.
