March 20 (UPI) — A Gallup poll shows President Donald Trump’s approval rating is 37 percent, the lowest since he took office two months prior.

The Gallup daily poll, based on a three-day rolling average released Saturday, shows 37 percent of Americans approve of the job Trump is doing as president, while 58 percent disapprove.

On Jan. 22, three days after Trump was sworn into office, Trump’s approval and disapproval rating was split 45 percent to 45 percent, respectively. On Feb. 21, about halfway through his first three months in office, 42 percent of Americans approved of Trump, while 52 percent disapproved, Gallup polls show.

Though Trump’s approval rating reached a new low Monday, it has been among its highest levels since the beginning of March. On March 10, Trump’s approval was at 45 percent, 1 point shy of his high of 46 percent immediately after his inauguration.

That number has since plummeted amid the fallout and subsequent investigation of comments he made accusing former President Barack Obama of tapping Trump’s phones at Trump Tower.

“Terrible! Just found out that Obama had my ‘wires tapped’ in Trump Tower just before the victory. Nothing found. This is McCarthyism!” Trump tweeted March 4, about a week before he saw a spike in support.

On Wednesday, Republican and Democratic leaders of the House Intelligence Committee said they found no evidence to support Trump’s accusation the Obama administration wiretapped Trump Tower before the 2016 election.

Over Trump’s claims of Obama surveillance, Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., on March 12 called on Trump to “either retract or provide the information that the American people deserve.”

“I have no reason to believe that the charge is true, but I also believe that the president of the United States could clear this up in a minute,” McCain said.

The Gallup poll, which has a 3 percent margin of error, is based on telephone interviews of about 1,500 U.S. adults.

FiveThirtyEight, a polling aggregation website, shows that Trump’s approval rating is also the lowest since he took office. In the average of all relevant polls, FiveThirtyEight shows Trump’s approval rating to be 42.5 percent, while his disapproval rating is 51.7 percent.
