Irish parliament passes bill allowing abortions

Dublin (AFP) – Irish Prime Minister Leo Varadkar spoke of a “historic moment for women” after lawmakers in Dublin passed legislation allowing abortions for the first time following a landmark referendum this year.

“Historic moment for Irish women. Thanks to all who supported,” said Varadkar, who supported the referendum in May in which 66 percent voted in favour of overturning a constitutional ban on abortions.
