Overturned semi covers highway ramp in watermelons

June 27 (UPI) — Authorities in North Carolina said an interstate ramp in Charlotte was closed for hours when a semi overturned and spilled hundreds of watermelons.

The North Carolina Highway Patrol said the driver of the truck was going too fast for the curve on Interstate 485’s inner ramp to northbound I-77 in North Charlotte.

The vehicle overturned, blocking the entire ramp and spilling hundreds of watermelons into the roadway. Cleanup crews were on the scene for several hours to clean up the smashed fruit and upright the tipped truck.

The crash occurred just before noon Tuesday. Officials said the ramp was cleared by 6 p.m.

There were no reports of injuries from the crash.
