Tim Brown’s Heisman Trophy sells for $435K

Dec. 10 (UPI) — Tim Brown’s 1987 Heisman Trophy was auctioned off for $435,000 in New Jersey.

Goldin Auctions sold off the trophy on Sunday for the record amount, edging out the $399,608 that Rashaan Salaam’s 1994 trophy sold for in 2016. The minimum bid for Brown’s trophy was $125,000. Brown was the first wide receiver to ever win the honor.

The Notre Dame product had 846 receiving yards and three touchdowns, as well as 144 rushing yards and a score during the 1987 season. Brown also had three punt returns for scores during that campaign.

Brown later became the No. 6 overall pick in the 1988 NFL Draft by the Los Angeles Raiders. The Pro Football Hall of Famer played 17 seasons in the NFL, making the Pro Bowl nine times. Brown had nine consecutive seasons with at least 1,00 receiving yards from 1993 through 2001.

Goldin’s holiday auction also included a Mickey Mantle rookie card selling for $58,920, a 1993 Dallas Cowboys Super Bowl ring ($44,190) and a pair of handcuffs used to arrest Lee Harvey Oswald after the JFK assassination ($76,105).

Oklahoma’s Kyler Murray won the most recent Heisman Trophy on Saturday, edging Alabama’s Tua Tagovailoa and Ohio State’s Dwayne Haskins.
