April 7 (UPI) — Sony Pictures Classics announced the re-release of Trainspotting on Tuesday. The film returns to theaters June 5 for its 30th anniversary.

Trainspotting opened in February 1996 in the U.K before a limited U.S. release in July and wide in August by Miramax. Director Danny Boyle supervised a 4K restoration which will be screened this year.

Ewan McGregor stars as Renton, a Scottish heroin addict with Sick Boy (Jonny Lee Miller), Spud (Ewan Bremner), Begbie (Robert Carlyle) and Tommy (Kevin McKidd). It was Kelly Macdonald’s film debut.

Adapted by John Hodge from Irvine Welsh’s novel, director Boyle depicted heroin highs as surreal, whimsical fantasies while lows and withdrawals became nightmares. Boyle reunited the cast for a 2017 sequel T2: Trainspotting, distributed by Sony.

The soundtrack includes Iggy Pop, New Order, Blur, Pulp and Underworld.
