Trump court pick Kavanaugh, accuser to testify on assault claim

Washington (AFP) – US President Donald Trump’s Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh and a woman accusing him of a sex assault when they were teenagers will testify next Monday before the Senate Judiciary Committee, the panel’s chairman announced.

Senator Chuck Grassley put off a vote on Kavanaugh’s nomination scheduled later this week, after California university professor Christine Blasey Ford came forth with her explosive allegation.

“Anyone who comes forward as Dr. Ford has done deserves to be heard,” Grassley said in a statement late Monday.

“To provide ample transparency, we will hold a public hearing Monday to give these recent allegations a full airing.”
