Sept. 21 (UPI) — President Donald Trump put more pressure on Attorney General Pam Bondi on Sunday to prosecute his political adversaries, saying it was time for her to take action.
“We can’t delay any longer, it’s killing our reputation and credibility,” Trump said on Truth Social. “They impeached me twice, and indicted me (5 times!). OVER NOTHING. JUSTICE MUST BE SERVED, NOW!!”
Senate minority leader Chuck Schumer, among other Democrats, criticized Trump’s actions.
Schumer, D-N.Y., said, “this is the path to dictatorship.”
Trump claimed that people were complaining that “nothing is being done,” and named some of the people with whom he has had political disagreements, including former FBI Director James Comey, Sen. Adam Schiff, D-Calif., and New York Attorney General Leticia James.
Comey oversaw the government’s probe into Trump’s possible ties to Russian leaders, an investigation that concluded that the president did not collude with Russian operatives.
Schiff led the first impeachment hearing against Trump while serving in Congress. James launched a civil suit against Trump in 2022 that accused him of financial misdeeds and overvaluing New York real estate in financial transactions.
An hour after publicly pressuring Bondi to act against his political foes, Trump praised her on social media. “Pam Bondi is doing a GREAT job as attorney general of the United States,” he wrote.
On the heels of the public pressure on Bondi, Trump also named his former defense attorney, who is currently a senior White House aide, as the replacement to lead a key prosecutor’s office, a person Trump forced from the job a day prior.
