Wallaby wandering English countryside after petting zoo break-in

Sept. 27 (UPI) — A wallaby is on the loose in England after being released by pranksters who broke into a petting zoo and switched the animals around the facility.

The owner of Johnsons of Old Hurst Farm Shop in Cambridgeshire confirmed someone broke into the petting zoo earlier this month and moved the animals to different enclosures, which allowed the wallaby to bound for freedom.

“Someone got in in the middle of the night and mixed up all the animals. Nothing was taken and the wallaby must have got out through a fence. We haven’t seen it since,” owner Andy Johnson told the Cambridge News.

Johnson revealed the unusual reason why he didn’t publicly appeal for the wallaby’s return earlier.

“The last time it happened a few years ago people brought a lot of wallabies that weren’t even ours,” he said.

Photos and videos have emerged online during the past month showing what is believed to be the facility’s escaped wallaby wandering around the countryside.

Police said they last received a report of the wallaby being seen hopping down a town street in Hartford on Sept. 19.
