MIAMI, Sept. 15 (UPI) — Carson Wentz, Kaelon Black and Caleb Douglas are among UPI senior sports writer Alex Butler’s fantasy football waiver wire priorities for Week 2.
C.J. Stroud, Chris Brooks, Jalen Coker and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers defense/special teams are among my other targets. The Week 2 waiver wire pool is slightly shallow due to a lack of opening-week injuries, but still includes several capable streaming options.
Sam Darnold and De’Zhaun Stribling are among the players who can be dropped from fantasy football team rosters. My waiver wire priorities each carry an ownership percentage of 60% or less.
Here are my top players to add and top players to drop for Week 2:
ALL-ADD TEAM
QB | Carson Wentz, C.J. Stroud; RB | Chris Brooks, Kaelon Black; WR | Caleb Douglas, Jalen Coker, Adonai Mitchell; TE | Hunter Henry; D/ST | Tampa Bay Buccaneers; K | Tyler Loop
HONORABLE MENTIONS
QB | Drew Lock, Tyler Shough; RB | George Holani, Braelon Allen, Keaton Mitchell; WR | Devaughn Vele, Denzel Boston, Rashod Bateman; TE | Juwan Johnson; D/ST | San Francisco 49ers; K | Cairo Santos
TOP DROPS
QB | Sam Darnold; RB | Dylan Sampson; WR | De’Zhaun Stribling, Ja’Kobi Lane; TE | Chig Okonkwo; D/ST | Minnesota Vikings; K | Chris Boswell
QUARTERBACK
Carson Wentz stepped in in relief of starter Kyler Murray, who sustained a concussion in Week 2. He could play again in Week 2 if Murray remains in the concussion protocol. The veteran quarterback threw for three touchdowns in the Minnesota Vikings’ season opener. Wentz, the No. 12 fantasy football quarterback in Week 1, could be in for a matchup against the Chicago Bears on Sunday in Chicago.
The Bears just allowed 361 passing yards, three passing scores and a rushing touchdown to Carolina Panthers quarterback Bryce Young in Week 1. Look for Wentz to have another QB1-worthy performance. He is a great option if your usual starter faces a tough matchup or underperformed in Week 1.
RUNNING BACK
This isn’t the best week to be running back needy, but several players should appeal to fantasy football fans. I like Kaelon Black the most out of this group because of his potential workloads.
Black, a backup to Christian McCaffrey, received 14 carries and logged 65 yards for the San Francisco 49ers in Week 1. He could again see a healthy workload in Week 2, especially if the 49ers can build an early lead against the Miami Dolphins in their home opener.
Look for Black to get at least 14 touches again Sunday in Santa Clara, Calif. If the rookie finds the end zone, he could reach fantasy football RB2 territory.
WIDE RECEIVER
The Dolphins might not project to have a stellar season, but Caleb Douglas should be a bright spot in 2026. The rookie pass catcher hauled in five catches for 94 yards in a Week 1 loss to the Las Vegas Raiders.
He should stay busy throughout the season as the Dolphins often find themselves playing from behind. This week, Douglas and the Dolphins will take on the 49ers in a game I expect them to lose handily. Douglas should stay in consideration as a low-end WR3 due to this likely game script.
TIGHT END
Hunter Henry is my top tight end target this week for several reasons. The primary factor you should consider is this tight end’s history of success with quarterback Drake Maye and the New England Patriots. Secondarily, he should receive additional targets going forward due to wide receiver A.J. Brown’s recent placement on injured reserve.
Henry hauled in three catches for 26 yards in Week 1. I expect him to receive 8 to 10 targets in Week 2, when the Patriots meet the Pittsburgh Steelers. Henry, who scored seven touchdowns last season, should be on your TE1 radar if you are in a league that requires starting the position.
