WWE Smackdown: Sami Zayn betrays Kevin Owens

March 7 (UPI) — Sami Zayn did the unthinkable and betrayed his best friend and partner-in-crime Kevin Owens Tuesday on Smackdown Live during the main event.

The duo, who have been teaming up and dominating Smackdown Live together since October, were placed into a Fatal 5-Way Match with WWE Champion AJ Styles, Dolph Ziggler and Baron Corbin after they attacked both Styles and Ziggler during their one-on-one match.

The Fatal 5-Way represented the original championship match scheduled for Fastlane before John Cena entered himself into the mix after defeating Styles last week.

Zayn and Owens worked together during the highly competitive match which featured all five Superstars pulling out all the stops and their signature moves in order to gain momentum heading into Fastlane. The bout reached its conclusion after Owens threw Styles out of the ring next to the other competitors and was then met with Zayn’s Helluva Kick to the face the second he turned around.

Zayn then pinned Owens for the three count and the upset victory. As Owens and Styles looked on in shock, Zayn gave an interview as he headed to the back and proclaimed he was the best WWE had to offer and that his victory proved it.

Styles defends his WWE Championship against Zayn, Owens, Ziggler, Corbin and Cena in a Six-Pack Challenge Match Sunday at Fastlane.

Also on Smackdown Live, Jinder Mahal and Randy Orton reignited their long-running feud and faced off in a one-on-one match before The Viper goes on to face Bobby Roode for the United States Championship at Fastlane.

Mahal, upset that he is being left out of the United States Championship picture, gained the victory after Roode, who was watching the bout at the announcer’s table, became involved in the match. As Orton got ready to deliver his signature RKO, Roode hopped onto the ring apron. Mahal then shoved Orton into Roode and delivered the Khallas for the three count.

Other moments from Smackdown Live included Smackdown Women’s Champion Charlotte Flair getting into a war of words with her Fastlane opponent Ruby Riott; Becky Lynch defeating Ms. Money in the Bank Carmella; and Rusev challenging Royal Rumble winner Shinsuke Nakamura to a match at Fastlane.
