Rep. Jan Schakowsky (D-IL) immediately politicized the tragic Aurora theater shootings, and, on Monday, the Congresswoman continued the tactic. This time, she used the Aurora shootings to denounce the National Rifle Association (NRA).
“The National Rifle Association is so powerful and so political. Now they’re saying ‘oh, let’s not make this political.’ There’s no one more political than the National Rifle Association,” Schakowsky said on MSNBC.
Schakowsky represents parts of the North Side of Chicago, a city which has one of the most restrictive gun-control laws in the nation and is home to some of the nation’s most heinous shooting incidents.
None of that evidence matters to Schakowsky, who openly rooted for a “tipping point” that makes the public want more gun control. She expressed her frustrations at a public who does not want their Second Amendment rights infringed and trampled upon.
“Yes, we mourn for all of those whose lives who were lost. It’s a very serious issue, but you know that in ten states gun homicides exceed traffic accidents right now… we have to do something about it,” Schakowsky said. “There’s no reason in the United States of America, the land of the free, that people have to be afraid to go to the movies.”
President Barack Obama yesterday did not mention the name of the shooter, so as not to give him publicity. He said the focus should be on the victims and their lives and, in the tragic cases, lives left behind.
But the victims seem to be the last thing on the minds of those like Schakowsky and others like New York Gov. Michael Bloomberg, who always want to use tragedies to push their left-wing agendas.
