Facebook, Instagram Meeting with Gun Control Groups

Facebook and Instagram are “in talks” about gun control with Michael Bloomberg’s Mayors Against Illegal Guns (MAIG) and Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America (MDA).

MAIG and MDA want both social media sites to “prohibit the private selling or trading of guns on its platforms.”

According to Forbes, “Legal representatives from both gun control groups have to date held a number of conference calls with Facebook’s legal team.” MAIG spokesperson Erika Soto Lamb says this is because “Facebook and Instagram are enabling people to sell weapons, often with no questions asked and no background checks required.”

On December 22nd, Breitbart News reported MAIG and MDA were joining forces to pressure businesses into adopting gun control. The merger came as MAIG’s membership was in decline and MDA was fresh off two failed gun control campaigns–one against Starbucks and the other against Staples.

MDA is circulating a petition to pressure Facebook, just as they circulated petitions to pressure Starbucks and Staples.
