Kathleen Sebelius Floats Trial Balloon for Kansas Senate Run

President Barack Obama’s embattled former Secretary of Health and Human Services (HHS) Kathleen Sebelius is reportedly considering a Kansas Senate run against friend-turned-critic Sen. Pat Roberts (R-KS).

The trial balloon for a possible Sebelius candidacy was received skeptically, as both Democrats and Republicans called for her ouster and blasted her for mismanaging the disastrous Obamacare launch. The New York Times reported on Wednesday that even “friends and Democrats who know her said that they seriously doubted she would follow through and mount a campaign.”

Still, throwing the idea of a potential Sebelius Senate run out there provides a window into the degree to which the Sebelius and Obamacare brands are intertwined. Politico blasted Sebelius’s managerial incompetence, stating that members of her own staff had grown tired of her penchant for constantly “flubbing details” and “causing headaches in meetings.”

Even on her way out, Sebelius’s lack of attention to detail was on embarrassing display when her White House Rose Garden farewell speech was missing a page and her goodbye email to HHS bureaucrats misspelled her successor’s name. Politico’s Mike Allen hailed the error as “Sebelius’s final indignity.”

Sebelius has until June 2nd to file for the Kansas Senate primary.
