De Blasio’s Changes in New York May Leave a Mark

New York magazine takes a look at how current Mayor Bill de Blasio is already beginning to change New York. It doesn’t sound so bad if you like crime, homeless people, and ferrets.

Yes, ferret ownership is on track to be legal again in New York City after a longish, expensive process. If they can be taught to work as guard ferrets and sniff out crime suspects, that may be a good thing. Although you may have to have your ferret neutered, much like de Blasio is neutering the NYPD.

But you can take comfort in knowing that while he’s weakening the so-called “thin blue line,” de Blasio has increased the height of the fence around Gracie Mansion, where he lives.

Unlike groundhogs and the honest, hard-working law-abiding citizens of New York, at least we know de Blasio is concerned for someone’s safety: his own.

New Yorkers have a more negative view of the NYPD…

The NYPD conducts fewer stop-and-frisks…

The city dropped its stop-and-frisk appeal…

NYPD officers are starting to use body cameras…

New York police officers are being retrained…

Carrying a small amount of weed will probably result in a ticket, not an arrest…

New Yorkers may be allowed to own ferrets again…

But Staten Island lost a groundhog, and possibly a holiday tradition…

New York is home to even more billionaires…

And homelessness is at a record high…

There are 23 new homeless shelters in the city…

There’s a new rent subsidy program for homeless families…

More public housing units are available to homeless families…

The speed limit was lowered from 30 miles per hour to 25 miles per hour…

Gracie Mansion’s fence is taller…

New York has a first lady for the first time in ten years…

And the first lady has a job in her husband’s administration…

The mayor is constantly late…

The mayor appears on the radio station Hot 97…

The mayor doesn’t march in the St. Patrick’s Day parade…

And that’s just the top 20 or so. Be sure to read the rest. If you live in New York City without a face as high as de Blasio now has around his digs, moving out may be a winner of a New Year’s resolution, given the trend.
