Republican presidential candidate and real estate magnate Donald Trump tells Breitbart News exclusively that he has no plans whatsoever to back down in the face of Univision—on behalf of the Mexican government—targeting him after he’s exposed trade deals and immigration problems that benefit Mexico and harm the United States.
“The Mexican government is putting tremendous pressure on Univision and there are plenty of others—lobbyists and special interests—putting tremendous pressure on Univision to break their fully signed and fully effective contract with the Miss Universe Organization because I’ve exposed the tremendously bad trade deals that the United States is so incompetently making with Mexico and also because of the fact that I’ve exposed some of the terrible things that happen on the southern border,” Trump said in his first interview, which came with Breitbart News on Thursday, in response to the news that under pressure from Mexican officials, Univision has announced it will end its plans to carry the Miss Universe pageants. Trump is a co-owner of the pageant organization.
“One of the reasons that I’m resonating with the people of the United States is that I’m willing to expose this and this is why our country is losing so much money on our trade deals with Mexico and other countries,” Trump said. “So this is what is happening: I have a fully signed contract, and they don’t want me to talk badly about the trade deals because doing that they’re not going to be able to continue to rip off the United States.”
On Thursday morning, the Wrap reported that Univision is ceasing all ties with Trump’s Miss Universe organization.
“At Univision, we see first-hand the work ethic, love for family, strong religious values and the important role Mexican immigrants and Mexican-Americans have had and will continue to have in building the future of our country,” Univision said.
Univision will not be, the company said, “working on any other projects tied to the Trump Organization.” That includes canceling plans to air a July 12 scheduled Miss USA pageant.
“Univision did promise that its news division would cover Trump’s presidential run fairly,” the Wrap added.
Univision says this is because of Trump’s comments on immigration and trade. During his presidential campaign announcement last week in New York City at Trump Tower, he hammered illegal aliens and the United States’ failure to address concerns at the southern border. He also hit the U.S. for engaging in bad trade deals that benefit Mexico instead of the United States, like the one that just passed Congress.
“When do we beat Mexico at the border?” Trump said in his announcement speech. “They’re laughing at us, at our stupidity. And now they are beating us economically. They are not our friend, believe me. But they’re killing us economically.”
“The U.S. has become a dumping ground for everybody else’s problems,” he continued in that speech. “When Mexico sends its people, they’re not sending their best. They’re not sending you. They’re sending people that have lots of problems, and they’re bringing those problems with us. They’re bringing drugs. They’re bringing crime. They’re rapists. And some, I assume, are good people.”
Trump said illegal aliens are coming from places other than Mexico, too.
“It’s coming from more than Mexico. It’s coming from all over South and Latin America, and it’s coming probably from the Middle East,” he stated.
In his interview with Breitbart News on Thursday, Trump—who has skyrocketed into second place in the 2016 GOP nominating process in recent polls, making him a tier one candidate who’s absolutely going to make the debate stage—noted that Univision has several senior people with ties directly to Hillary Clinton and the Democrats.
“They’re all in Hillary’s camp and all Obama supporters,” Trump said of Univision’s organization. “They support Hillary and Obama—I have had no problems with them. The contract was signed and done. This was only after I’m running for president of the United States. The Mexican government doesn’t want me to speak badly about the trade deal and also about the Southern border—and by the way, I hope you can say this because I have great respect for Mexico and I love the people of Mexico. But my loyalty is to the United States.”
One particular example of an egregious pro-Clinton and pro-Democratic Party stance from Univision is that Univision owner Haim Saban is convinced that Clinton will win the White House in 2016.
“There won’t be any problems with relations between the United States and Israel when Hillary Clinton is president,” Saban said in a recent interview with an Israeli outlet, outright predicting she will win.
Also, Jorge Ramos—the anchor who serves as an advocate for illegal aliens in the United States, a born Mexican who’s become a U.S. citizen himself—just announced his daughter is working for the presidential campaign of Hillary Clinton.
“As journalists the most important thing we have is our credibility and integrity,” Ramos wrote in a recent blog post announcement. “We maintain that, in part, through transparency with our audience, our colleagues and our critics. That is why I am disclosing that my daughter, Paola, has accepted a position working with Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign.”
Ramos swears this won’t sway his coverage, but Trump said that’s not likely.
There’s no way that Univision can be objective, fair, or straightforward in its political coverage—or in its contract negotiations—Trump said.
“This is so political—they totally made this up,” he declared. “They wanted to silence me so that I wouldn’t talk about how bad the border situation is. And so that I wouldn’t talk about how bad the trade deals are.”
Trump added that the Mexican government controls Univision’s content.
“Univision is very subservient to Mexico,” he said. “They’re subservient to Mexico. And Mexico does not want me talking about the bad trade deals that the United States is making. They also don’t want me talking the horrible situation on the southern border. I greatly respect Mexico.”
Univision’s attack on Trump on behalf of the Mexican government isn’t the first time Mexico has attacked him since he launched his presidential campaign. Mexico’s Interior Minister Miguel Angel Osorio Chong attacked his comments on trade and immigration as “biased and absurd,” as Breitbart News previously reported, right after he launched his bid for the White House.
Trump and his team noted to Breitbart News that, for instance, Volkswagen isn’t building new plants in the U.S.—but instead in Mexico—and that’s because of bad U.S. trade policy.
“I don’t hold any of that against Mexico,” Trump said, citing a recent Wall Street Journal article. “I hold it against the United States. The Mexican leadership is far more effective at negotiation and I’m exposing that. So what they did is say, ‘I’m not going to do business with Donald Trump,’ and it’s only because I’m exposing one of the great flaws of the United States.”
Trump concluded by noting that the Mexican government’s actions through Univision won’t slow him down—he’s going to keep on moving with his message. And he’s going to sue Univision, and win.
“The difference between me and a politician is that a politician would immediately stop,” Trump said. “With me, I say ‘okay, you’re not going to do business with me?’ I’ve already hired a lawyer and we’re going to sue them for hundreds of millions of dollars in damages.”
