During an October 16 town hall at Keene State College, Democrat presidential hopeful Hillary Clinton described semi-automatic guns as “automatic weapons” again.

At Keen State Clinton responded to a question on Australia’s gun ban by explaining that the Australian government used a national buyback to confiscate guns. She said such an approach was “worth looking at” in the US and also suggested that the motive behind the Australian ban was the desire to “clamp down on the availability of automatic weapons.”

This was the second time Clinton has conflated semi-automatic firearms with “automatic weapons” at a town hall.

The first time she did it was during a CNN town hall held on June 17, 2014.  During that town hall Clinton was asked if she thought banning “assault weapons” or “high capacity” magazines “would do any good.” Clinton answered in the affirmative, then went on to scold Congress for not passing more gun control after Sandy Hook and suggested that school children run the risk of being gunned down by an “automatic weapon” in the situation that currently exists.

Here are Clinton’s exact words:

First of all, I think as a teacher or really any parent, what’s been happening with these school shootings should cause everybody to just think hard. We make hard choices and we balance competing values all the time. And I was disappointed that the Congress did not pass universal background checks after the horrors of the shootings at Sandy Hook, and now we’ve had more in the time since. And I don’t think any parent–any person–should have to fear about their child going to school or going to college because someone, for whatever reason–psychological, emotional, political, [ideological], whatever it means–could possibly enter that school property with an automatic weapon and murder innocent children, students, teachers.

Clinton ultimately suggested the failure to pass gun control was due to the opposition posed by gun owners and gun rights groups, both of which she described as “a minority of people…[who] hold a viewpoint that terrorizes the majority of people.”
