Arizona House Majority Leader Steve Montenegro (R-Avondale) is pushing to make the cost of a concealed carry permit course tax deductible.

According to 91.5 KJZZ, Montenegro argues says that a concealed carry permit course “promotes safety” and gives the state the added advantage of a citizenry that is ready and able to act in self-defense when evil or demented persons attack. He said, “Law enforcement have told us time and again that the first line of defense are those that carry… [with] permits.”

Montenegro also believes the tax deduction will serve to show new generations of Arizonans that the state values citizens with concealed carry permits.

There are approximately 251,000 concealed carry permit holders in Arizona—a state where carrying a gun concealed or open without a permit is also legal. The advantage of getting a permit is that it allows you to carry your gun into establishments that serve alcohol, and it also gives you the benefit of carry-reciprocity with other states.
