The Iowa caucuses granted American workers a win, according to NumbersUSA president Roy Beck.
“Beleaguered American workers scored a victory in the GOP race as two-thirds of Iowa voters preferred candidates who support admitting fewer future legal immigrants to compete for scarce U.S. jobs,” Beck said in reaction to Monday night’s GOP Iowa caucus results.
According to NumbersUSA — a group in favor of more limited immigration to the U.S. — Ted Cruz’s win in Iowa with 28 percent of the vote, combined with the percentages Donald Trump (24 percent), Ben Carson (9 percent), Mike Huckabee (2 percent) and Rick Santorum (1 percent) were able to yield totaled nearly 64 percent in favor of candidates whose policies are more pro-American worker than the rest of the field.
“While Cruz was the big winner of the first presidential primary, it is important to note that Trump, Carson, Huckabee and Santorum joined him in pledging immigration policies that better protect the interest of American workers.” NumbersUSA’s Beck said.
In advance of the caucuses NumbersUSA urged 40,000 of its Iowa network members to study its scorecard for all the presidential candidates to see where they stand on the issues.
On that scorecard — which rates the candidates on 10 immigration-related issues like amnesty, immigration reduction, birthright citizenship, interior enforcement, and E-Verify — Cruz received an “A,” Trump received an “A-,” Carson received a “C,” Huckabee received a “C,” and Santorum received an “A.” Other than Chris Christie who received a “C+” from the grades Cruz, Trump, Carson, Huckabee, and Santorum received were the best grades of the presidential field.
Huckabee dropped out of the presidential race Monday night.
