On Breitbart News Daily Tuesday morning, American Conservative Union chairman Matt Schlapp told Breitbart News executive chairman and host Stephen K. Bannon that a loss in Florida could destroy donor-class favorite Marco Rubio’s political career.

“Psychologically, this Florida and Ohio question is about breaking the back of your opponent if you’re Donald Trump,” Schlapp said, referring to the second Super Tuesday. He added:

I think if Trump wins Florida, which is likely–every poll’s got him with a double-digit lead–and then if he ekes out a win in Ohio and gets all of those delegates, I’ve got to think he’s broken the back of his opponents and this thing is just…I don’t think it will be over, but I think because there’s fight in those folks that just hate Donald Trump, and they’re going to fight him all the way to Cleveland, and he needs to understand that,” Schlapp said. “But for all practical purposes, the math gets awfully hard for him.

“I have respect for Marco. … He’s taking this fight to his home state. But there’s another side of this: When you’re a presidential candidate, can you risk losing your home state? You could destroy your career,” he continued, pointing out that former Sen. Rick Santorum left the last presidential race before he lost Pennsylvania. “If a candidate can’t even win their home state, that’s just very damaging.”

What if Rubio comes in third in Florida, behind GOP frontrunner Donald Trump and Sen. Ted Cruz? “I think it weakens him for future runs,” Schlapp said.
