NRA to Comment on Philando Castile’s Death Once Investigation Ends

On July 8 the NRA announced it will comment on the shooting death of Philando Castile once the investigation into the incident has ended.

Castile was shot and killed by a police officer during a traffic stop on July 6 in Falcon Heights, Minnesota. His girlfriend, Lavish Reynolds, was in the car with him at the time. CNN reports that Reynolds said Castile told the officer he had a gun on him and that he also had a license to carry the gun.

The NRA says “reports out of Minnesota are troubling” but they are not going to comment until the investigation has run its course and all claims have been verified or proven false.

The NRA’s statement:

As the nation’s largest and oldest civil rights organization, the NRA proudly supports the right of law-abiding Americans to carry firearms for defense of themselves and others regardless of race, religion, or sexual orientation.

The reports from Minnesota are troubling and must be thoroughly investigated. In the meantime, it is important for the NRA not to comment while the investigation is ongoing.

Rest assured, the NRA will have more to say once all the facts are known.
