A 17-year-old girl, home alone, retrieved a handgun and confronted a would-be home intruder, warning, “I have a gun. I’m going to shoot.”

The suspect fled the scene.

Fox 59 reports the incident occurred “around 2 pm.” The girl’s dog began barking, and she saw a “muscular” man going around to various doors of the house, trying to find one that was unlocked. The teen, Faith Shilkett, then ran through the house to be sure doors were locked. She went finally to “her mom’s room and pulled out a gun.”

Armed with the gun, she yelled, “I’m here. I have a gun. I’m going to shoot.”

Faith called 911 and her mom, who had only left the house to go to the store. She said the suspect fled the scene in a white van.

Faith’s mom says the suspect “got away with a generator, a power washer, and other tools from the garage.” She added, “Items can be replaced, but obviously your daughter can’t be. That was my biggest worry.”
