A robbery suspect in Kansas City, Missouri, screamed, “It’s just a toy gun” after a clerk called his bluff by shooting him with a real one.

The incident occurred at Pour Boys gas station Saturday morning.

According to Fox 4 KC, robbery suspect Tho Van Tran walked up to the counter and asked questions about candy bar prices before allegedly pulling a BB gun and pointing it at the clerk. Tran then demanded money, repeating himself numerous times as the clerk assessed the situation.

In the end, the clerk reached into his jacket pocket, pulled a real gun and shot Tran with it. A wounded Tran then shouted, “It’s just a toy gun.”

After shooting Tran, the clerk called 911 and positioned himself between the robbery suspect and the front door to ensure there was no escape prior to police arriving on scene. Tran unsuccessfully “attempted to crawl away from the crime scene” while the clerk blocked the door.

Tran is “charged with first degree robbery and is recovering from a gunshot wound to his shoulder.” Court documents indicate “[he] has been arrested previously for shoplifting, burglary, a parole violation and drug possession.”
