President Donald Trump fired off a message to Russia on Wednesday, demanding that they stop meddling in the struggle for power in Venezuela.

“Russia has to get out,” Trump said shortly to reporters.

About 100 Russians landed in Venezuela, according to reports, suggesting that Russian President Vladimir Putin might be trying to keep Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro in power.

President Trump spoke about the ongoing struggle during a White House meeting with Interim First Lady Fabiana Rosales to hear about her struggle and to press dictator Nickolas Maduro to step down.

He highlighted the plight of the newly recognized interim President Juan Guaido and his staff as well as the widespread suffering in the country.

“Venezuela was and is still a country with tremendous potential where people are starving. They’re getting killed. They’re being beaten. What’s going on there is unfathomable,” he said.

Trump expressed his sadness that the once wealthy country was facing widespread utility failures, starvation, murders, and beatings.

Rosales said that she was afraid for her husband’s life and emphasized that his chief of staff and friend Roberto Marrero was kidnapped.

“They are hitting everything that is closest to him, trying in that way to destabilize him,” she said. “What they don’t know is when they do that, they’re pushing us forward. We will not rest. We are here to save lives and to give back freedom.”

Trump vowed to stand with Guaido and his family.

“We’re with you 100 percent,” he said. “It will all work out. It’s all going to work out. It always does, we’re going to get it to work out.”
