Arizona’s Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office (YCSO) reports that a grandmother shot a home intruder to save her family.

Breitbart News reported the incident on March 25, explaining that the grandmother opened fire after she was attacked. A YCSO update shows that while the grandmother was attacked, she was also acting to protect her grandchildren, ages “3, 5, and 12,” who were in the home when the intruder entered.

The parents of the grandchildren were also in the home.

YCSO said 42-year-old Gregory Hardy entered the home around 7:30 p.m. and demanded money, then grabbed the grandmother’s arms when she refused to hand any over. Her husband then came into the room and confronted Hardy, buying the grandmother time to retrieve a handgun.

An altercation between Hardy and the grandmother’s husband was reportedly ongoing when the grandmother walked back into the room to announce she was armed. She demanded Hardy leave, but he allegedly “advanced towards her,” at which time she shot him.

He fled but was “located at a nearby home where he had collapsed.”

He was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.
