Democrat presidential hopeful and gun control advocate Kamala Harris says she owns a firearm “for personal safety.”

The Associated Press reports that Harris told reporters in Iowa, “I own a gun for probably the reason that a lot of people do: for personal safety.”

She added, “[Americans] are being offered a false choice, which suggests you’re either in favor of the Second Amendment or you want to take everyone’s guns away.”

Harris also discussed her support of universal background checks, which criminalize private gun sales, and of securing an “assault weapons” ban.

On February 3, 2019, Breitbart News reported that Harris has also voiced support for banning bump stocks and denying long gun purchases to 18-20 year olds.

On April 15, 2019, Breitbart News reported Harris’ opposition to allowing teachers to be armed for self-defense. She said, “We need to give teachers a raise, not guns.” Yet Harris says she owns a gun “for personal safety.”
