Republican candidate for North Carolina’s ninth congressional district, Dan Bishop, is beating his Democrat rival Dan McCready, according to a poll released Friday.

Internal Republican polling has found Bishop, a North Carolina state senator, is beating McCready from anywhere between two to four points. According to the poll, Bishop was previously down in the polls compared to McCready just a few weeks ago.

In contrast, Democrat party internal polling has McCready up one point, which would suggest the race has become a virtual tie and within each party’s margin of error for their internal polling.

Another poll conducted by JMC Analytics in May found Bishop led McCready by four points, which was within the poll’s 5.3 point margin of error.

The North Carolina ninth congressional district race is largely seen as a  bellwether congressional race that could help Republicans regain the House after they lost it to Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) in the wake of the 2018 midterm elections.

The National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC), the Congressional Leadership Fund (CLF), and the Club for Growth have spent a combined $6 million in the battle thus far. The Democrat Congressional Campaign Committee and the Democrat House Majority political action committee (PAC) have spent roughly one million. McCready has outspent Bishop by spending roughly $4.7 million compared to Bishop’s $1.7 million thus far.

President Donald Trump announced earlier in August he will hold a rally in North Carolina’s ninth district for Bishop in the September 10 special election.

Trump said McCready does not want strong immigration control and socialist policies.

“Looking forward to soon being in North Carolina to hold a big rally for wonderful Dan Bishop, who is running for Congress. His opponent wants Open Borders, Sanctuary Cities, and Socialism,” the president wrote in a tweet last week. “He likes the “Squad” more than North Carolina. Dan has my Full and Complete Endorsement!”
