Outgoing White House Chief of Staff Mick Mulvaney is self-isolating following possible exposure to the Chinese coronavirus.

Mulvaney, who previously tested negative for the coronavirus, is self-isolating in South Carolina out of an abundance of caution following contact with his niece, Maggie, who came down with flu-like symptoms.

Mulvaney’s niece, a staffer on President Trump’s reelection campaign, reportedly came into contact with Brazilian officials who visited Mar-a-Lago this month. While Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro tested negative, his press secretary, Fabio Wajngarten, contracted the virus.

While Mulvaney’s niece is reportedly on the mend, she has tested negative for the flu. The coronavirus results are pending. According to ABC News, she has remained in quarantine.

“Mulvaney had contact with someone whose test results are pending, so out of an abundance of caution due to his proximity to the president, he’s teleworking pending those results,” White House press secretary Stephanie Grisham said.

Outgoing Rep. Mark Meadows (R-NC), who Trump has tapped as his next chief of staff, had also volunteered to self-quarantine over possible exposure to a Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) attendee who tested positive for the virus.

Meadows spokesman Ben Williamson said at the time:

Rep. Meadows was advised this weekend that he may have come in contact with the CPAC attendee who tested positive for COVID-19, now 12 days ago. Out of an abundance of caution, Meadows received testing which came back negative. While he’s experiencing zero symptoms, under doctors’ standard precautionary recommendations, he’ll remain at home until the 14 day period expires this Wednesday.

Meadows did, however, test negative for the virus.
