Surgeons in India removed 40 knives from a man’s stomach after a five-hour-long surgery.

Doctors admitted the unidentified 42-year-old patient to the hospital in Northern India after he complained of abdominal pain, weight loss and weakness.

What surprised the doctors is how the patient ate the knives over the past two months because he “liked to eat them,” The Indian Express reports.

Dr. Jitendra Malhotra, director of Corporate Hospital, described it as one of the most unique cases he has ever encountered.

“This was very unnerving, [I have] not witnessed something like this in my career as a doctor,” Dr. Malhotra said to ANI News.

“When we began diagnosis, we found the cause of the pain puzzling. We did an ultrasound, which revealed some solid mass in his stomach, shaped like cancer,” he said.

The biopsy results showed sharp, knife-like objects inside his stomach.

After the successful five-hour surgery, the patient is recuperating and is expected to be released in the next few days, The Telegraph reported.

In Peru, a man ingested 1.5 pounds of scrap metal that had to be removed by surgery back in 2009, The Daily News reported.

One woman in the Netherlands also had to undergo surgery after she ingested 78 pieces of cutlery.  The results were published in a Dutch medical magazine back in 2009.
