NEW ORLEANS, Louisiana – A Louisiana Democrat State Representative will not be serving jail time after he pleaded “no contest” to allegedly punching his mistress in the face at a New Orleans hotel last year.

State Rep. Troy Brown (D-LA), 44-years-old, pleaded ‘no contest’ to simple battery charges, prompting Orleans Parish Criminal District Court Judge Camille Buras to throw out his six-month sentence for the misdemeanor, according to NOLA.com.

Back in November 2015, Brown’s mistress, as she described herself, said she was punched in the face after getting into a fight at the Hyatt Regency New Orleans.

The woman described herself specifically as Brown’s “side friend,” telling police that she had been in a romantic relationship with Brown for more than 10 years.

In court the woman did not speak, though last month the woman said she wanted to drop charges against Brown. A protective order was later lifted by Judge Buras. The order had originally been made active after the woman reported the domestic violence case to the police.

This was not the only case of violence against women allegedly perpetrated by Brown.

Eight months after allegedly punching his mistress, Brown was arrested and charged with domestic abuse after he allegedly bit his wife’s forearm during an altercation in Ascension Parish.

Brown continues to be the sitting State Representative for Geismar, Louisiana. The Democrat, though, was suspended from four State House committees he was serving on after his second arrest for domestic violence, according to the Advocate.

“The only authority I have as president is to suspend him from committee assignments,” Louisiana State Senate President John Alario said at the time.
