CIUDAD VICTORIA, Tamaulipas — The acting director for the Tamaulipas Ministerial Police is under criminal investigation and lost his job after he caused a scandal at a local convenience store and drunkenly assaulted various police officers. At the time of the arrest, the top law enforcement official was allegedly drunk and carrying his duty pistol and rifle.

The incident took place this week in Ciudad Victoria when Israel Sanchez Aguirre, the acting director for the Tamaulipas Ministerial Police, drove his police vehicle to a convenience store in the Sierra Madre neighborhood. Employees immediately called police after seeing an intoxicated individual with a handgun walk into the store.

A video filmed moments after the arrest and leaked to Breitbart Texas reveals an apparently drunk Sanchez Aguirre insulting the police officers and appearing to pass out momentarily.

“You are dogs–you are dogs fuckers,” Sanchez Aguirre is seen in the video yelling at the officers. “I beat the fuck out of you … dogs.”

The arrest took place after officers with the Fuerza Tamaulipas police unit responded to the call. A chase ensued when Sanchez Aguirre allegedly tried to flee the area in his police vehicle. Authorities caught up with him in the Jose Lopez Portillo neighborhood where the man allegedly resisted arrest and struck various officers before they were able to handcuff him. Authorities seized a police handgun and two AR-15 rifles. Inside Sanchez’ vehicle, authorities found several cans of Tecate Light beer.

Sanchez Aguirre was the second in command of the Tamaulipas Ministerial Police but became the acting director after the head took medical leave. Shortly after the arrest, the Tamaulipas government fired Sanchez Aguirre and started a criminal investigation.

Breitbart Texas obtained a second video from months before the recent incident that shows Sanchez Aguirre passed out apparently from alcohol at a party while his staff tries to wake him up.

The scandal surrounding the arrest of a top state law enforcement official comes at a time when authorities are not able to slow the cartel violence taking place throughout the state. In Ciudad Victoria, rival factions of what was once Los Zetas Cartel continue to fight for regional control, setting off a growing wave of executions and murders. In the northern city of Nuevo Laredo, the faction of Los Zetas called Cartel Del Noreste continues to hold the city under a tight grip of terror with gruesome executions and fierce gun battles. In Reynosa and Matamoros, rival factions of the Gulf Cartel continue to fight for control of lucrative drug and human trafficking routes. The fighting in Reynosa left more than 466 murders since May 2017.

Editor’s Note: Breitbart Texas traveled to the Mexican States of Tamaulipas, Coahuila, and Nuevo León to recruit citizen journalists willing to risk their lives and expose the cartels silencing their communities.  The writers would face certain death at the hands of the various cartels that operate in those areas including the Gulf Cartel and Los Zetas if a pseudonym were not used. Breitbart Texas’ Cartel Chronicles are published in both English and in their original Spanish. This article was written by “Francisco Morales” from Tamaulipas.
