Wasserman Schultz: Impeachment Not Off Table Because Boehner Can't Control His Caucus

On Friday’s “The Daily Rundown” on MSNBC, Democratic National Committee chairwoman Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz charged that impeachment of President Barack Obama wasn’t actually off the table as Speaker of the House John Boehner had claimed earlier in the week.

Instead, Wasserman Schultz told host Chuck Todd that Boehner wasn’t in control and that instead “Speaker Cruz,” just as Rep. Chris Van Hollen (D-MD) had said a day before.

“That isn’t true [that impeachment is off the table], Chuck,” she said. “The only reason impeachment isn’t off the table is because Republicans won’t take it off the table. Speaker Boehner has made it very clear that he isn’t able to control his conference. He really isn’t speaker. Ted Cruz is speaker. So you know, when you have the third highest ranking republican, Steve Scalise, refuse to take impeachment off the table on Fox News when asked a direct question, it’s the Republicans that haven’t taken it off the table. So we know that the lawsuit is either a prelude to impeachment or was passed off the House floor just to appease his very large number of members who really want us to pursue impeachment. That’s why it’s out there. They should all take it off the table.”
