ESPN’s Cowherd Argues Against NFL Marijuana Ban; Likens to Gay Marriage, Gambling Bans

During Friday’s “The Herd” Colin Cowherd, the host, commented on former Broncos tight end Nate Jackson saying that medicinal marijuana should be legalized in the NFL to help with the physical and psychological pain and head injuries inherent to their profession.

Cowherd agrees with Jackson, saying that marijuana has a medicinal benefit in football.

“And I was telling the guys this morning is, ‘I think of all the sports, the number one sport where you can make an argument that marijuana has a medicinal benefit is football,’ because we do know this. Twenty-three states medically allow it. Medicinal marijuana and that’s increasing. It will be 40 in the next five years. It could be 50. You know, it’s much like the culture war on gay marriage and pot. It’s gambling. It’s over. Gambling won. Gay marriage won. Legalizing pot won. OK, you can fight it. The momentum is overwhelming.”

He later added. “We know it’s not great for kids, 16, 17, 18 as their brains form, but if you look at what medicinal marijuana is used for, it’s chronic pain.”
