Pittsburgh Pirates starting pitcher Gerrit Cole came within inches of serious injury Thursday against the Detroit Tigers.
In the sixth inning, Tigers pitcher Jordan Zimmermann sharply lined a Cole pitch directly back from where it came, grazing the top of Cole’s hat and knocking it off.
The pitcher came out unscathed and continued to pitch after being a little spooked by the close call.
The Tigers went on to win 7-4.
