Durbin: ‘We’re Exploring the Ways’ to Stop Senate Recess so Trump Can’t Replace Sessions During the Recess

On Tuesday’s broadcast of MSNBC’s “The Beat with Ari Melber,” Senate Democratic Whip Senator Dick Durbin (D-IL) stated that options are being explored to keep the Senate from going into full recess to prevent President Trump from removing Attorney General Jeff Sessions during the recess and appointing a replacement without having to go through confirmation.

Durbin said that he wants the Senate to avoid going into full recess if that’s what is needed to prevent Trump from removing Sessions while the Senate is in recess and avoid confirmation.

He added that “We’re exploring the ways” to prevent the Senate from going into full recess “right now.” He declined to give any specific plans, but stated it wouldn’t be acceptable for the president to use the August recess to stop the Russia investigation.
