Sacramento Kings Game Delayed by Black Lives Matter Protesters

Thursday’s Atlanta Hawks-Sacramento Kings game was delayed after Black Lives Matter protesters formed a human chain in front of the Golden 1 Center, home of the Kings.

The protest was in response to the shooting death of 22-year-old Stephon Clark at the hands of police.

Many fans were turned away from entering the arena over safety concerns.

Following the game, Kings owner Vivek Ranadivé addressed the small crowd that made it into the arena. The owner offered his sympathy and called for unity.

“[W]e at the Kings recognize people’s ability to protest peacefully and we respect that,” Ranadivé said. “We here at the Kings recognize that we have a big platform. It’s a privilege, but it’s also a responsibility. It’s a responsibility that we take very seriously. And we stand here before you — old, young, black, white, brown — and we are all united in our commitment.”
