ABC’s Hostin on Puerto Rico: Like a ‘Dictatorship’ Trump’s ‘Government Allowed Its Own Citizens to Die’

Wednesday on ABC’s “The View,” co-host Sunny Hostin criticized President Donald Trump for how his administration handled the Hurricane Maria response in Puerto Rico.

Reacting to Trump calling the response a “success,” co-host Abby Huntsman said, “Even if you support him there are some things that are indefensible and so out of touch from reality and a lot of that is because he hasn’t been on the ground there since right after it happened. A lot of deaths took place because of the lack of resources.”

Hostin said, “It’s humiliating, it’s embarrassing for our country, and I don’t think this president cares. I don’t think he cares.”

She added, “Can I just also mention that what people seem to fail to realize when we talk about these 3,000 deaths? Sanjay Gupta, my friend, was in Puerto Rico after a a hurricane struck and he said something like over 90 percent of the additional deaths that happened after the hurricane struck were preventable. So we’re talking about the fact that this government allowed its own citizens to die. I thought that’s what we only saw in dictatorships.”
