Defense Tells Knock-Knock Joke to Open Zimmerman Trial

George Zimmerman defense attorney Don West opened the trial regarding the killing of Trayvon Martin with a knock-knock joke, attempting to point out the difficulty of finding an unbiased jury in the case. He said that finding the jury was equivalent to this joke:

            “Knock, knock.”

            “Who’s there?”

            “George Zimmerman.”

            “George Zimmerman who?”

“Ah, good, you’re on the jury.”

West did retell the defense’s side of the story, stating that Zimmerman was beaten brutally by Martin, his head pounded against the ground and his nose broken. “He had just taken tremendous blows to his face, tremendous blows to his head,” West said.
