According to a report in the South China Morning Post, NSA leaker Edward Snowden tried to get a job with US government contractor Booz Allen Hamilton in order to collect information about US surveillance programs. “My position with Booz Allen Hamilton granted me access to lists of machines all over the world the NSA hacked,” Snowden reportedly said. “That is why I accepted that position about three months ago.”
Snowden left Hong Kong for Russia over the weekend, but not before telling the Post, “I did not release [documents showing US hacks of Chinese computers] earlier because I don’t want to simply dump huge amounts of documents without regard to their content. I have to screen everything before releasing it to journalists.”
Snowden apparently also told the Post that he had more information he would be breaking: “If I have time to go through this information, I would like to make it available to journalists in each country to make their own assessment, independent of my bias, as to whether or not the knowledge of US network operations against their people should be published.”
The newspaper is widely perceived as pro-China, although it is published in Hong Kong.
