CA Chamber of Commerce Targeting CA House Republicans on Immigration

Big business interests in California will target California House Republicans, like House Majority Whip Kevin McCarthy, to try to win their support on a comprehensive immigration reform bill.

California Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Allan Zaremberg told McClatchy newspapers there is “no question” that his group is targeting Republican CA representatives like Jeff Denham, David Valadao, Devin Nunes, Gary Miller, and McCarthy, in addition to the 10 Republican House Members form California.

According to the publication, CalChamber last week “began a public push for a House vote on a bipartisan bill the Senate approved last month.”

As McClatchy notes, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce also supports the efforts of Republicans like Grover Norquist and former President George W. Bush to persuade Republicans to support comprehensive immigration reform.

Last week, Sen. John McCain (R-AZ), a member of the Senate’s Gang of Eight that wrote the immigration bill, said his side was losing the battle on comprehensive immigration reform. He urged big businesses and faith groups to target House Republicans during the August recess to get them to support the Senate’s comprehensive immigration reform bill, despite the Congressional Budget Office determining it would lower the wages of working class Americans while not solving the illegal immigration problem.
